Ramandeep Singh talks through his 35 off 17 in KKR’s comeback with the bat

“I was enjoying by time in the middle and trying to play with intent,” he told Sky Sports.

“I was striking well in domestic cricket but they way these guys have backed me is tremendous.

“I really want to play like (Russell) maybe one day I can play like that.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins gives his response

“It was a close game and a wonderful game of cricket,” he told Sky Sports.

“I was impressed with how we bowled but Andre Russell did what Andre Russell does.

“We had our plans but he’s a tough guy to bowl to.

“We could have bowled a few balls differently but he’s the toughest guy to bowl to in the world when he’s playing like that.”

An IPL classic at Eden Gardens

We were so close to one of the greatest comebacks in T20 history but, similarly, the comeback by KKR in the final over with the ball was incredible.

Huge pressure on Harshit but the seamer came up with the goods.

An amazing death over from the right armer.

WICKET! Klaasen is out! Sunrisers Hyderabad 204-7

Klaasen skies it and is caught at short-third for 63 off 29.

    Five needed from one.

WICKET! What has Shahbaz done? Sunrisers Hyderabad 203-6

Shahbaz holes outs as he attempted to go back over the bowlers head.

Six to win from three. Jansen is on strike.

    19 overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad 196-5

Four sixes in the over and this could be one of the great comebacks.

Klaasen takes Starc down with three of the sixes before Shahbaz cashes in as well off the final ball as he bludgeons it over square leg.

13 to win off the final over.

    18 overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad 133-5

    Surely this can’t happen?

Klaasen hammers two sixes off Varun and then Shahbaz adds another.

39 to win from 12 balls. Amazing!

WICKET! Samad is out! Sunrisers Hyderabad 145-5

Samad started the over with a six and a four to inject some life back into the chase but Russell strikes back with the fifth ball.

The ball is swung to Iyer in the deep although they did have to check for a waist high full toss which was cleared.

Samad falls for 15 from 11.

Shahbaz is the new batter and hits the last ball of the 17th over for four.

    60 needed from 18.

WICKET! Markram falls! Sunrisers Hyderabad 107-3

Singh no mistake this time as Markram holes out to the deep midwicket off Varun.

The South African falls for 18 of 13.

SRH reach 108-3 by the end of the 12th as Klaasen arrives in the middle and takes a single.

KKR vs SRH, IPL 2024: Andre Russell’s all-round performance helps Kolkata Knight Riders edge Sunrisers Hyderabad

Andre Russell smashed a 25-ball 63 and picked two wickets to help Kolkata Knight Riders eke out a four-run win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

    SRH 204/7 in 20 overs

Harshit Rana to bowl the last over. Klaasen on strike. SIX! Klaasen can do everything! He pulls again to dispatch the ball over deep mid-wicket and now only seven is needed off the last five. Klaasen hits hard but gets an inside edge, just a single. Harshit to Ahmed, OUT! Length ball and Amhed miscued his pull and skipper Shreyas Iyer took a clean catch at long-on. The new batter Marco Jansen instantly gives Klaasen the strike. Harshit to Klaasen, OUT! An outside edge and Suyash Sharma runs backwards to complete a terrific catch. What a turnaround. Skipper Pat Cummins is out now. He needs to hit a maximum to win it for SRH. Five off one. Harshit to Cummins, SWING AND MISS! It was in the slot for Cummins but he missed to find a connection there. Harshit is elated and so are the KKR players. What a win for the two-time champions here at their home ground.

    SRH 149/5 in 17 overs

Andre Russell comes back into the attack. SIX! Short and in the middle and smoked by Samad over deep mid-wicket. FOUR! Much-needed boundaries for Sunrisers here as Samad hits down the ground for a four. Russell to Samad, OUT! Another wicket as Samad is caught by Venkatesh Iyer while he was trying to go for another boundary. Shahbaz Ahmad gets off the mark with a FOUR!

    SRH 108/3 in 12 overs

Varun Chakaravarthy comes back into the attack. OUT! Markram holes out to Rinku Singh who completes a brilliant catch. Heinrich Klassen comes in at no. 5 and gets off the mark with a single off the last delivery. Just three runs from this over.

Harry Brook an X-factor for SRH; played some extraordinary shots: Virender Sehwag

Phew, we’ve had another cracking game! It saw 433 runs scored overall, a hundred from Harry Brook after three failures to start, a superb innings from Markram who took the spinners on when Brook was unable to, and then two blazing fifties from Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh to keep KKR in the hunt chasing 229. But it was probably Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Markande who made the difference with the ball. So that’s a wrap from us here as SRH bounce back after their poor start to the season to win two in a row. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. This is Sagar Chawla signing off on behalf of Praveen, MS Ramakrishnan and Saurabh Shankar. Goodbye!

Brook, Player of the Match: Was a special night. Thankfully we got over the line as well. Got a little tense in the middle. A lot of people say that opening the batting in T20 is the best time to bat. I’m happy to bat anywhere. I’ve had a lot of success batting at five. Made my name there. My four Test hundreds will have to be over this one. The crowd was phenomenal tonight. I enjoyed it. I was putting pressure on myself a little bit. You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. There’s a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up to be honest.

Markram, SRH captain: Feels good winning away from home. Was always going to be a tight game. With their firepower we knew the total wasn’t safe. Our bowlers showed character. I was fortunate that we got off to a great start. Makes life easier. We bat quite deep so you get the freedom. We all know Harry – his ability we have seen. Giving a player like that the time to face a lot of balls. He’s Mr. Reliable for sure (Bhuvi). Certainly helps the dressing room. It’s a great bunch of guys. It’s cricket at the end of the day, always going to teach you a lesson.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: We just wanted to get wickets up front, but the way they scored in the 6th over, they were equal to us (powerplay score). I am not a big fan of too many slower balls or variations. You just got to bowl in the right areas. Try to bowl according to the batter and the dimensions. Just wanted to back him (Umran for the final over) and he started the over with two good balls. (Pitch) Bad for bowlers for sure (chuckles). No, really good wicket for the batters. They can come hard and if you put the ball in the right areas you can get wickets as well. Top class innings (from Harry Brook), we needed that type of an innings from him. Having him among the runs is a big plus for us. He can take any team apart, that is why the management sent him to open the batting.

Nitish Rana, KKR captain: Thanks for the compliments on the run chase. I feel the way we bowled was not according to the plans. No matter what the wicket was like, this wasn’t a 230 wicket. One odd day you’ll get an innings like Rinku had the other day, but not everyday. We batted really well, we wanted to take the game deep and then you never know. Home advantage is one thing, but we know Eden Gardens tracks always play this way, we expected 200 to be a par score here and have been preparing that way, but we need to bowl better. Today, even the main bowlers were going for runs but I can’t be too critical because these are the same bowlers who will win me a game some other time. Very happy with the fight we showed but would have loved it more if we got two points as well
